Pool filter sand is better and sand box sand but using aquarium sand is recommended. However I know multiple fish owners who have used this pool filter sand in their aquariums and it all works fine. The only thing I'd suggest is early water changes or a rinse before you add it just to get anything off of it that may have gotten through the bag and into the sand.
